“A Swedish Philosophy with a Mancunian Ideal”

Our Swedish Philosophy:
Fika is a concept, a state of mind, an attitude and an important part of Swedish culture. Many Swedes consider that it is almost essential to make time for Fika every day. It means making the time for friends and colleagues to share a cup of coffee (or tea) and a little something to eat.
Fika cannot be experienced at your desk by yourself. That just would not do.
Fika is proven to increase productivity, happiness in the workplace, it promotes free thinking, it promotes the sharing of ideas and it is also scientifically proven to be massively beneficial for mental health.
Fika is a ritual. Even the mighty Volvo plant stops for Fika, all Swedes consider it important to make time to stop and socialize: to take a pause. It refreshes the brain and it strengthens relationships. And it makes good business sense: firms have better teams and are more productive where Fika is institutionalized.
Fika can be a verb. Swedes will say to each other, “Let’s go and Fika!” or “You and I Fika so well together”.

Psychologist Ron Friedman states that human evolution has built or brains for short bursts of concentrated activity, not for day-long marathons. He recommends two fifteen minute daily breaks, one being “FIKA!”

Our Mancunian Ideal:

We are based in Failsworth, Manchester.
Manchester is a city of massive Industrial heritage and the Mancunian work ethic has been a point of pride since the Industrial Revolution, when the hard working men and women in the factories that lined the city were coined “Worker Bees”.
It’s since this time that Manchester has adopted the Bee as its motif and so have we! The worker bee has long been a symbol of Manchester and the city’s hard-working past.
And while every other city in the North of England has a heritage built upon Industry – there is a reason that the bee symbol is a part of Manchester’s coat of arms which was given to the city in 1842. In the 1800’s Manchester was awash with textile mills that were described as “hives of activity”.
Busy Bee is still a term associated with industriousness and hard work.

We here at Fika Recruitment embody both: a hard working company with a more relaxed and considered approach.
